What's on...?

Updated: Nov 7

Winner of last years Mono competition: Amanda Smith - Married.

This month we will be treated to a talk by fantastic food photographer, Donna Crous. We have a couple of member project nights, where we get to share images and learn from each other. And we have the judging of the Mono competition. Meetings will be on zoom. Where possible, our zoom meetings are recorded and available for members to watch again later.

If you are heading out to take some photos and want some company, put a shout out on WhatsApp (or email, which can be forwarded to members: brauntoncameraclub@gmail.com)

If you are not a member of our club and interested in joining our talks to see what we're all about get in touch.

In the gallery below you'll find the winning images from the first Open competition in our winter programme.

1st November: Star trails, underwater, and sports event images

This week, three club members share images and some tips for different genres of photography; underwater, star trails, and a sports event.

Tom Candy has recently taken up scuba diving and photography. He will be showing images from dives he's completed in the UK and overseas. He'll also be sharing information on how best to capture colours in subjects underwater and what equipment he uses.

Sue Shreeves developed an interest in capturing star trails during lockdown and will be sharing some of her images, as well as tips for capturing and editing star trail images.

Vicky Dyson recently attended the North Devon Hospice 'Mission Unbreakable' charity event as a volunteer photographer. She will be showing some images captured of race goers at the three obstacles she was assigned along the course.

NB: Hand in deadline for the Mono competition (2 DPIs and 2 prints)

8th November: Member Project Night

Do you have a project you've been working on? Or a set of images you particularly like, or want feedback on? It's a chance for us to see what we've each been doing with our photography, what we've enjoyed, what we've learnt, what we've found challenging, etc. You can show your images in an AV/slideshow (with or without music), or flick through them and tell us a bit about each of your images. If you do want to create an AV/slideshow and need some assistance shout out!

15th November: Judging Mono Competition

Jane Kearney will be judging the entries for the mono competition. Jane has judged previous competitions for the club and always provides very considered and helpful feedback.

22nd November: Food Photography with Donna Crous

.

Donna Crous is an award winning blogger and food photographer. She has been a finalist in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition, and shortlisted in the Stylist Award category for 2019, 2020 and 2021. Her most recent achievement is that two of her images were shortlisted for The British Photography Awards 2021.

She will be sharing tips with us on how to capture amazing food images. "Lighting is crucial, and can be the difference between an appealing, flattering shot and something that looks unnatural and unappetising". You can find examples of her work on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/donnacrous/ and her website: https://www.donnacrous.com

29th November: Invited Speaker - Jane Lazenby

Jane Lazenby specialises in equine photography and working with textures.

"I'm a seasoned lecturer, and after working in adult education for over 25 years, I'm a clear and patient speaker (with a sense of humour!).... I love live editing, this always gets the attention of every member [at camera club talks]! As part of the working with textures presentation I request prior to the day a selection of images donated from club members, so not only is the edit live, it's also with previously unseen images!"
